Replicant GEN 1

Open Hardware (CERN-OHL-W v2.0)

Replicant GEN 1 design files (including the airframe and the battery rail/mount that forms part of the drone) are released under the CERN Open Hardware Licence v2 — Weakly Reciprocal (CERN-OHL-W-2.0).

That means you may download, manufacture, modify, and sell drones based on these files. If you modify the licensed design files and then distribute those modified files or ship products based on your modified licensed design, you must make the corresponding modified design source for the licensed portions available under CERN-OHL-W-2.0, and keep the required copyright/licensing notices.

What's allowed
  • ✅ Download and use the design files
  • ✅ Manufacture drones for personal use
  • ✅ Manufacture and sell drones commercially
  • ✅ Modify the designs for your own needs
  • ✅ Distribute modified designs (under CERN-OHL-W-2.0)

Proprietary / Excluded (Battery Pack)

The rail-mounted battery pack itself is not part of the open release. Battery pack design (cell configuration, wiring, electrical design, drawings, and any files explicitly marked "Proprietary") remains proprietary to Yirra Systems and is not licensed for copying, manufacturing, or redistribution without written permission.

Excluded from open license
  • ❌ Battery pack design
  • ❌ Battery pack cell configuration
  • ❌ Battery pack wiring
  • ❌ Any files marked "Proprietary"

Commercial licensing, volume orders & integration

The battery pack is not open hardware, but we actively support manufacturers, fleet operators, and integrators through volume discounting, affordable licensing when OEM use of our pack design is appropriate, and design services for custom implementations. Working with Yirra on a defined commercial path is almost always simpler and faster than trying to replicate or route around the proprietary stack alone.

No Warranty / Safety

All materials are provided "as-is", without warranties of any kind. Building and operating drones is inherently risky. You are responsible for safe assembly, testing, operation, maintenance, and compliance with all applicable laws and regulations in your location.

Safety Notice

Building and flying drones involves significant risks including but not limited to:

  • Physical injury from spinning propellers
  • Fire hazard from lithium batteries
  • Property damage from crashes
  • Legal liability in your jurisdiction

You assume all responsibility for safe construction and operation.

Three ways to license (read once)

One question, three doors. Free under CERN-OHL-W-2.0 for makers, research, and teaching. Partner (CPA) for commercial up to 2,000 units / yr. Enterprise (MCLA) for anything above 2,000, exclusivity, or defence and government programs. No retroactive penalties — CERN breach is a copyright problem with a 30-day cure, not a surprise invoice. Use the three-doors page to pick, or the compliance guide to document conformance on the Free door.

Three ways to license. Pick the one that fits.

Free under CERN-OHL-W-2.0 (makers, research, teaching). Partner up to 2,000 units / yr — AUD $1,100 – $13,500 / yr plus per-unit royalties from $9 – $20. Enterprise for 2,000+ units, exclusivity, or defence — setup from AUD $45,000, negotiated per deal. No retroactive penalties, no hidden escalators.

Free — CERN-OHL-W-2.0

Use and share the CAD under CERN-OHL-W-2.0. Build, fork, teach, research. If you modify and distribute, publish your modified source on the same terms, keep notices, and follow the compliance guide. No fees while you remain in conformance. Breach is a copyright problem with a 30-day cure (CERN §7) — not a retroactive commercial invoice.

Commercial — Partner or Enterprise

If you're selling, pick the Partner door (CPA) for up to 2,000 units / yr, or the Enterprise door (MCLA) above that / for exclusivity / for defence. Every commercial instrument is signed. None is ever auto-applied.

Partner tiers (CPA v1.1)

TierAnnual volumeAnnual fee (AUD)Per-unit royalty (AUD)Battery price (AUD)
Maker1 – 25 units / yr$1,100 / year$20$175 (save $54)
Commercial26 – 500 units / yr$4,500 / year$15$149 (save $80)
Scale501 – 2,000 units / yr$13,500 / year$9$125 (save $104)

All AUD, ex-GST. Setup paid annually. Report & royalty due within 14 days of each quarter-end. Unit cap: 2,000 / yr. Above that → Enterprise.

Enterprise (MCLA v1.1)

Setup from AUD $45,000. Royalty negotiated per deal. Exclusivity floors:

Exclusivity typeFee floor (AUD / yr)What it covers
Territory only$25,000We won’t licence anyone else in that country/region.
Vertical only$35,000We won’t licence anyone else in that industry (e.g. mining, agri).
Territory + vertical$60,000Both, for the term of the agreement.

Authoritative v1.1 wording. The plain-English one-pagers are the 10-second decision sheets.

Commercial Partner Agreement v1.1Partner door — up to 2,000 units / yr

The standard commercial instrument for Partner tiers (Maker / Commercial / Scale). Covers tiers, royalties, reporting, partner listing, battery pricing, and the Good Standing Certificate. Sign once, pay annually, report quarterly.

Master Commercial License Agreement v1.1Enterprise door — 2,000+ / exclusivity / defence

The enterprise framework for 2,000+ units / yr, exclusive territory or vertical, and defence / government programs. Setup from AUD $45,000, per-deal royalty, exclusivity fee floors, export-control provisions. Every MCLA is signed — nothing is auto-applied.

Replicant GEN 1 — CERN-OHL-W-2.0 Compliance Guide v1.1Free door — what "in conformance" means

Yirra's published guide to practical conformance with CERN-OHL-W-2.0 for this platform. Not a substitute for the CERN licence text, but it's what we point builders and distributors to for expectations and evidence.

Next step. Unsure which door? Run the three-doors wizard. Partner signups happen through commercial programs. Enterprise enquiries go to partners@yirrasystems.com.
